As a year round resort, there is a much to do. In the warmer months there is swimming in the lake, kayaking, mountain biking and walking. In the winter, Hasliberg is 30 minutes by car and has 60 km of ski slopes and 25 km of winter hiking paths; Grindelwald and Wengen lie at the foot of the famous trio Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau and are 40 minutes away while Schilthorn is a versatile hiking region during the summer and the highest skiing area in the Bernese Oberland during winter.
Lake Brienz is 14 km long and 3 km wide. It lies in the Jungfrau Region of Switzerland which has been justifiably listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The region is not far from Freiburg, Munich, Geneva and Lausanne. The cities of Milan and Turin are a reasonable distance.
The nearest airport is in the capital Bern, just 1 hour away. From Zurich International Airport, Florens Resort and Suites is 1 hour 30 minutes by car.
Lake Brienz is a turquoise coloured lake just north of the Alps, in the canton of Berne in Switzerland. It has a length of about 14 kilometres, a width of almost 3 kilometres.
The village of Brienz is located in the middle of beautiful mountains at the eastern end of Lake Brienz and is the starting point for excursions to the Bernese Oberland, the Ballenberg Open-air Museum but also to Lucerne or Interlaken or across the nearby Alpine passes.
Probably the most romantic part of Brienz is the Brunngasse which, having once been awarded the title "most beautiful street in Europe" is well-known abroad. Most of the houses in the street date from the 18th century and are decorated with wood carvings. Brienz, is known as the "village of carving" and has a long tradition in wood processing and to this day has a school for carving and violin-making.
For winter sports there is nearby Axalp, where there is a small, family-friendly winter sports area, complete with the Axiland learning and experience slopes for children. For more experience skiiers and snowboarders there is the Meiringen-Hasliberg ski region which is easily and quickly accessible.
A walk along the traffic-free lake promenade, a swim in the lake or a cruise on board the historic salon paddle steamer Lotschberg are all enjoyable on a summer's day.
The two railway stations are just a short distance away from the ship embarkation point: Brienz is located on the narrow-gauge railway line which links the famous holiday destinations of Interlaken, Meiringen-Hasliberg, Brunig, Lucerne and Engelberg. The other station is the small base station of the steam rack-railway up the Brienzer Rothorn panorama and hiking peak.
Other highlights include the Ballenberg Open-air Museum and Open-air Theatre, the Swiss School of Wood Sculpting as well as numerous outdoor pursuits.
